Doula Services

Specializing in supporting, nurturing and celebrating mamas throughout the childbearing year, I believe giving birth is priestess work, and a doula is your sacred servant. Trust your body, trust your baby and embrace the mother goddess within!

Wild Mother Arts currently offers Doula Services and breastfeeding counselling within the James Bay and Cook Street areas of Greater Victoria, BC.

A doula is a woman, trained and experienced in childbirth, whose sole focus is the emotional well-being of the mother before, during and immediately following the birth of her baby. She provides continuity of care when birth takes place in hospital, attending the laboring mother first at home, providing reassurance, and easing the transition into the hospital environment. When the birth takes place at home, additionally she may set up a birth tub, assist with siblings, or make a hot cup of soothing herbal tea. Wherever the birth takes place, her job is to assist the labouring mama in whatever way she can, and help make the experience as empowering and satisfying as possible.

My philosophy of pregnancy and birth is that the childbearing year is an expression of love. Pregnancy is a state of health, and birth is a physiological, spiritual and primal process. My approach to doula care is holistically based, and I believe the journey to motherhood needs to be honoured and celebrated. My own journey as a mother and doula has led to me to embrace the wise woman tradition and its wisdom for pregnancy, birth and beyond.

By attending to your unique needs as a whole, I can help nurture the mother you are about to become. Enlightening your mind with information to make informed decisions, pampering your body during labour, birth and beyond, and feeding your growing spiritual connection to mothering are some of the goals of my doula services.

We will meet at least twice before your due date to become acquainted, so that I will know best how to assist you in your unique needs. Our first visit (after our free initial visit) will be spent getting to know each other better while exploring your options in all aspects of labour and birth, postpartum and baby care. Together, we'll create a wishlist for your birth experience, plan an early labour project, and a blueprint for making the most of your babymoon.
